Recently released statistics show the positive effect that No Second Night Out is having in Leicester. Streetlink is a national organisation through which members of the public can report the location of rough sleepers to help connect them with the nearest outreach team. The NSNO project aims to increase local awareness of Streetlink to utilise members of the public in their mission to help rough sleepers. The project, launched in December 2013, has already seen an impact with 78% of the total number of reports to Streetlink about rough sleepers in Leicester occurring in the last three months.
Tim Blewett, NSNO project coordinator says; ‘It’s great to know that the project is having an impact and that local people are getting involved. People often face a dilemma when they come across a rough sleeper, wanting to help them but unsure what to do. Streetlink and NSNO Leicester provide members of the public with a way in which they can help, it allows the outreach team to offer them accommodation and support as quickly as possible. We still need help spreading the word about Streetlink and NSNO so I would encourage people to tell their friends, colleagues and family about how they can help.’
