One in four children consider running away from home

More than one in four (27 per cent) children in the UK have thought about running away – with half of them admitting to spending a night away from home without telling their parents, according to Action for Children.

The leading UK charity surveyed eight to 16-year-olds with OnePoll to find out what makes children want to leave home, ahead of Byte Night, a fundraiser which aims to tackle youth homelessness. It found that more than half (52 per cent) ran away because of arguments with family members, rising to 86 per cent in Wales, while 42 per cent believed their parents didn’t want them and would be better off without them.
