Shelter Housing Aid and Research Project has recently published its annual review for 2013-2014.
In the review, Chief Executive, Dave Brazier, says:
“The past year has unfortunately been a stressful one for many homeless and poorly housed people in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. April 2013 saw the start of many changes to the system of housing benefits that assists people on low incomes to pay their housing costs and in particular the introduction of the so called ‘Bedroom Tax’. These changes are intended to reduce the cost of Housing Benefit to the taxpayer. However they almost inevitably increase the likelihood that those on low incomes will be unable to afford a decent home. As a result I anticipate increasing homelessness in 2014.”
“On a more positive note in April 2014 SHARP in partnership with Leicestershire CAB and Age UK Leicestershire and Rutland was successful in securing a two year contract from Leicester City Council to provide specialist advice services.”
